Album: Introducing... The Beatles (Englands No.1 Vocal Group)
Label: Vee-Jay Records
Catalog Number: VJLP 1062 (Mono)
Release Date: February 1964
Pressing Plant: Southern Plastics (Nashville, TN) — Identified by the specific typesetting and matrix characteristics unique to this plant.
Description
This is an authentic 1964 US mono original of the "Version 2" release. This version was issued after Vee-Jay lost the rights to "Love Me Do" and "P.S. I Love You," replacing them with "Ask Me Why" and "Please Please Me." It features the "Brackets" VJ logo on a black label with a rainbow color band. The cover is the "Titles on Back" variety with the tracklist printed in two columns.
Condition
Cover: Excellent (EX). The top left corner has small tears, and the corner is worn. A vintage "Troy Camera Center" price sticker ($2.88) is still present on the front, serving as a cool piece of retail history.
Vinyl: Very Good Plus (VG+).
Notes for collectors
As one of the most counterfeited albums in existence, this Southern Plastics pressing stands out as a 100% genuine original. Key authentication points for this specific variant include:
Nashville Typesetting: The labels were printed by Williams Printing Co. of Nashville, featuring the distinct fonts where the album title and "THE BEATLES" are both positioned above the spindle hole.
AudioMatrix Stamp: The dead wax contains the machine-stamped "AudioMatrix" logo, proving it was pressed from high-quality master plates used for the initial runs.
Visual Quality: The front cover features high-quality print resolution; specifically, George Harrison's shadow is visible, and the "LP 1062" text is crisp—details usually blurred on fakes.
Version 2 Rarity: While millions of copies exist, authentic Southern Plastics pressings are highly prized for their robust sound and historical connection to the Nashville music scene.
