Artist biography:
A former tagger in the 1990s, Enigme09 discovered photomontage in 2009. The painter Jacques Monory reinforced the path he had chosen by suggesting a poetic approach to his art.
His compositions combine elements from the world of advertising or popular culture with others belonging to the corpus of art history. Their blend is cutting-edge, explosive, surprising, disturbing, but also invites us to question the status of images and any possible hierarchy of values between them.
The artist manages to give meaning to familiar signs, emptied of content due to their sheer ubiquity. But, of course, this meaning is, most often, far from their original signified.
Enigme09 sums up his artistic creed in a laconic formula: “give a voice to the images to open our eyes.”
