The globe is an exact replica of a well-executed globe from the 15th-17th century Age of Exploration. Gerardus Mercator was a Flemish cartographer, renowned for his maps and globes which he sold throughout Europe. His cylindrical projection world map became the standard map between much of the 17th to 20th centuries.
