Description from the seller

Elegant KPM Berlin Hand-Painted Porcelain Coffee Service with Blue Rose Decoration
Manufacturer: Königliche Porzellan-Manufaktur (KPM) Berlin, Germany - one of Europe’s most prestigious porcelain manufacturers, established 1763
Description:
A stunning vintage KPM Berlin coffee service showcasing the manufactory’s exceptional craftsmanship and artistic excellence. This charming set features exquisite hand-painted decoration in the romantic Blue Rose pattern, embellished throughout with lavish 24-karat gold gilt detailing.
Design & Decoration:
The service exemplifies the refined elegance of mid-century European porcelain design with distinct Rococo revival influences. Each piece is adorned with:
∙ Hand-painted floral motifs: Delicate blue roses rendered in subtle gradations of cobalt and periwinkle, accompanied by smaller forget-me-nots and botanical sprays with naturalistic gold leaves ∙ Ornate gold gilt work: Elaborate rocaille scrollwork frames each floral composition, with additional gold feathering, borders, and edge detailing throughout ∙ Sculptural elements: Gracefully curved handles with acanthus leaf molding, elegantly tapered spout, and a finely modeled pinecone finial on both lids ∙ Classic KPM form: Shapely baluster body with subtle ribbing and refined proportions characteristic of Berlin porcelain
Set Composition:
∙ 1 Coffee pot with fitted lid and decorative finial (approximately 9-10” tall) ∙ 1 Creamer/milk jug with gilt handle ∙ 1 Covered sugar bowl with finial ∙ 2 Cups with sculptural handles ∙ 2 Saucers ∙ 5 Dessert/bread and butter plates with scalloped gilt rims Markings & Authentication:
Each piece bears authentic KPM marks on the underside:
∙ Underglaze blue KPM scepter mark (the famous Prussian royal scepter) ∙ Underglaze blue orb mark with cross (Reichsapfel) ∙ Impressed model/form number: 6856 ∙ These marks authenticate the pieces as genuine KPM Berlin production Provenance & Period:
Mid-20th century, circa 1950s-1970s, representing KPM’s continued excellence in the post-war era when the manufactory maintained its centuries-old traditions of quality and artistry.
Condition:
Appears to be in excellent vintage condition with bright, unfaded decoration and intact gilding. The porcelain shows the characteristic brilliant white KPM body with fine translucency.
Historical Significance:
KPM Berlin has served European royalty and aristocracy for over 260 years, creating porcelain for Frederick the Great and subsequent Prussian monarchs. The company’s scepter mark remains one of the most recognized and respected symbols in European ceramics. This service represents the accessible luxury of mid-century KPM production, when the manufactory made fine porcelain available to an appreciating middle class while maintaining royal standards of quality.
Display & Use:
Perfect for the discerning collector of fine European porcelain, this set would grace any elegant table setting for afternoon coffee or tea service. Equally suitable for display in a china cabinet where the exquisite hand-painting and gold work can be appreciated. An excellent foundation for building a larger KPM collection or a standalone treasure representing Berlin’s porcelain heritage.
Dimensions: (Approximate)
∙ Coffee pot: 9-10” height
∙ Plates: 6-7” diameter
∙ Cups: 2.5-3” height
This is a lovely set that would appeal to KPM collectors, European porcelain enthusiasts, and those seeking elegant vintage tableware with provenance and quality.
