Afrodite pudica, a decorative sculpture in marble powder composite, originating from Italy, measuring 12 cm wide by 33 cm high by 10 cm deep, in excellent condition and unsigned.
Description from the seller
A decorative sculpture depicting a nude female figure of clear classical inspiration, made of composite material with a marble-effect finish, iconographically interpretable as a Venus/Aphrodite pudica, a type derived from the Greco-Roman sculptural tradition. Aphrodite
The pose indeed recalls the famous scheme of the Pudic Venus: the body is depicted in a slight contrapposto, with one leg bearing weight and the other bent, creating a sinuous and elegant line. The figure holds a drapery that slides along the thigh, an element typical of Neoclassical reinterpretations of the theme, where the drapery serves both a compositional and decorative function. The gesture is not one of total coverage as in the Capitoline or Medici Venuses, but belongs to a freer and more decorative variant of the ancient model, very widespread between the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries in decorative arts.
The face, with regular, serene features, and the updo contribute to an idealized, timeless image that does not appear to be a direct copy of a single specific ancient statue, but rather a reinterpretation in a classical style inspired by the broad repertoire of Hellenistic and Roman Venuses, filtered through neoclassical and decorative taste.
The circular base and the small shell-shaped element next to the drapery reinforce the symbolic allusion to the birth of the goddess from the sea, a further indication of the identification with Venus/Aphrodite.
An object of strong formal elegance, suitable as a decorative element in classical interiors, studies, libraries, or furnishing contexts inspired by ancient art. It combines historical-artistic appeal, balanced proportions, and ornamental value, making it interesting for collectors of decorative sculptures and lovers of classical iconography.
Proper packaging and trackable shipping throughout Europe.
