Renato Borsato was born in Venice in 1927, where he operated in his studio in San Vio until 2013.
During his painting career, he established himself early on as one of the leading young Italian painters of the postwar period, attracting attention from both critics and the public, also as a winner of numerous painting prizes. He traveled, painting in France, Switzerland, Austria, and England.
From 1950, Borsato participated in provincial, regional, national and international exhibitions.
In 1953 he worked for several months in Paris as a guest of Dr. Edonard Garde. Also in 1953 he was awarded a second prize at the third edition of the Burano Prize for a Breton landscape.
Accepted by the jury, he first entered the 27th Venice International Art Biennale in 1954 with a group of five works, obtaining the Tursi Prize.
In 1955 he was invited to the VII Roman Quadriennale, and the following year he exhibited at the XXVIII International Art Biennale in Venice with three paintings, obtaining as official recognition purchases by the President of the Republic Giovanni Gronchi and by the Galleria d'Arte Moderna in Rome.
In the same year in Paris, invited by the management of the Marcel Bernheim Gallery for a solo exhibition, he was interviewed by French Radio and Television. In 1957 he stayed in Milan, and the following year he executed a wall painting for a hall at the Savoy Hotel in Trieste.
Renato Borsato has for many years been a member of the jury for the Bevilacqua La Masa Opera Collectives and for exhibitions in Florence and Siena.
In the years 1981-1983 he exhibited at the Il Traghetto Gallery in Venice and at the Rovani Gallery in Genoa.
For the Theatre, Borsato oversaw for the Ca’ Foscari Theatre of Venice the stage production of Bertolt Brecht’s opera Tamburi nella notte in 1958, and on behalf of Teatro La Fenice in Venice he oversaw the stage productions for the operas Turandot (1960), Traviata (1961), Butterfly (1962).
In his career he has received numerous awards and recognitions.
