Yuan–Ming Dynasty earthenware Longquan Celadon Jarlet, 6.5 cm high with an 8 cm diameter, from China’s Longquan kilns, in good antique condition with a small base restoration, a superficial underside chip, and a tiny rim flea-bite.
Description from the seller
Rare 14th/15th Century Chinese Longquan Celadon Jarlet.
A classic example of Yuan to Early Ming Dynasty (c. 1300–1450) Longquan stoneware. This globular jarlet features a lustrous, thick sea-green celadon glaze, characteristic of the renowned kilns of Zhejiang province. Originally used for medicinal oils, perfumes, or as a refined scholar’s desk object, this piece embodies the timeless elegance of Chinese monochrome ceramics.
Form: A well-proportioned, compressed globular body with a short tapered neck and a wide, inviting mouth.
Glaze: The glaze displays a soft, waxy luster with natural pooling near the foot, showcasing the "tears" often sought after by collectors of period celadon.
The Base: Features the distinctive unglazed foot ring, which has oxidized to a warm, brick-red "burnt orange" during the high-heat kiln firing—a hallmark of authentic antique Longquan ware.
Condition Report
Presented in good antique condition, commensurate with approximately 600 years of age.
Patina: Features a beautiful network of darkened stress cracks and natural crazing, providing an authentic "earth-aged" character.
Integrity: A small, professional restoration chip at the base and a superficial chip on the underside. A tiny, honest flea-bite chip at the rim. These minor imperfections do not detract from the vessel's structural stability or display appeal.
Diameter: 8 cm
Height: 6.5 cm
Origin: China (Longquan Kilns)
Period: Yuan / Early Ming Dynasty
Same model and same size sold on Sotheby's.(December 2024 - Hongkong. Lot: 5715)
