1 plate with 4 finely colored woodcuts and 1 illustrated capital from 'Cosmography: das ist, Beschreibung Aller Länder' by Sebastian Münster, Basel, Henricpetri, around 1590. On a single sheet; the date is unknown.
The work was a vast chronicle of all the geographic knowledge of the world up to that moment. It contained world maps, as well as city views and wood engravings of historical subjects, mythology, natural history, and ethnography.
Sebastian Münster was a German cartographer, cosmographer, and Hebrew scholar. He also became a Franciscan monk at an early age. Münster's Cosmographia was the first scientific work in the German language.
