Fleurs - Grande célébration, a 1940 oil on cardboard still life by Louis Pastour (France), signed and sold with its original gilded wooden frame.
Description from the seller
PASTOUR Louis (1876-1948)
Flowers - Grand Celebration
Oil on cardboard
Signed at the bottom left,
Titled, initialed and dated on the back by the artist: "Great celebration, Cannes July 1940 - Louis PASTOUR"
A beautiful, poetic work by the Cannes-born painter Louis Pastour, depicting a bouquet of flowers in a vase, perhaps zinnias.
The artist uses a palette of pure colors and plays with contrasts to emphasize the power of the composition.
A worker by day and a student in the evening at the School of Decorative Arts of the city of Nice and then Paris, he exhibited for the first time at the age of 45. In 1902, he founded, with a group of workers passionate about art, the Association of Fine Arts of Cannes, of which he is the secretary-general. Through this association, the region's painters are brought into the spotlight by an annual exhibition.
A painter of light with complete mastery of color, Louis Pastour uses the palette knife technique to bring his works to life.
Recognized by critics as a poet-painter because of the poetic titles they give to his works: Fête de soleil, Reflets d'or, Gloire au matin …
Dimensions: 45.5 x 37.5 cm without a frame and 59 x 50.5 cm with its original gilded wood frame.
