A beautifully large hand-carved dark wooden box in authentic Jugendstil style, dating from the early 20th century. Crafted from solid teak wood, this refined decorative box exemplifies the high level of craftsmanship typical of the Asian colonies (likely Indonesia or Ceylon), where such luxury export objects were produced for the Dutch and German markets around 1890–1910.
The lid is richly decorated with deep, geometric-relief carving combined with organic, flowing Jugendstil motifs, framed by an elegant beaded border.
