Description from the seller
Exquisite Shino-ware Tea Bowl (Chawan) – The Soul of Wabi-sabi
This exceptional Shino-ware tea bowl (Chawan) is a masterful embodiment of the "Wabi-sabi" aesthetic, originating from the historic Mino region in Gifu Prefecture, Japan.
The piece is characterized by its thick, milky-white feldspar glaze, which creates a tactile "Yuzuhada" (citron peel) texture and a stunning network of fine crazing (Kannyu) across its surface. One of its most captivating features is the dramatic "Hiiro" (scarlet fire marks)—warm, reddish-orange scorched tones that emerge where the flame kissed the clay during the intense firing process.
The bold, hand-formed shape feels powerful yet comfortable in the hands, reflecting the rustic elegance of Momoyama-period traditions. On the bottom, a distinctive artist's mark is deeply impressed, testifying to the maker's pride and craftsmanship. This is not just a vessel, but a "landscape" (keshiki) to be contemplated during the tea ceremony.
