AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Large four-flame brass cast candelabrum with a cherub – France, Second Empire (1900–1925) – Registered Design

Description

Refined and elegant four-flame candelabrum in cast brass, made in France in the second half of the 19th century, Second Empire period (circa 1900–1925).

The model features a scenographic and harmonious composition, with a central putto figure in a dynamic pose, finely modeled according to the nineteenth-century academic taste, a clear nod to Rococo models of the eighteenth century reinterpreted in the Napoleonic era.

The four sinuous arms unfold with broad naturalistic scrolls, enriched by raised foliate elements and integrated wax-catching dishes.
The circular base, of considerable diameter, is finely decorated with carved vegetal motifs, in keeping with the French ornamental production of the period.

The ensemble fully embodies the taste for the Louis XV/Louis XVI revival that was typical of the Second Empire, with a balance between decorative richness and architectural proportion.

Technique and materials

Brass cast in a multipart mold, subsequently finished and chased.
Central screw assembly typical of nineteenth-century manufacturing.

Present marking under the base: 'MOU-DEP' (Modèle Déposé), a French indication of a registered model, consistent with production dating to the second half of the 19th–20th century.

The patina is natural, with light oxidations in the recesses that enhance the modeling.
