Description from the seller

Romi (1905-1995). Brothels. Geneva, Editions Michèle Trinckvel, 1979, 286 pp., 233 pp.

Two quarto volumes (280x230 mm), publisher's black cloth with a medallion on the first board, gilt head, in a slipcase. Spine slightly sunken. Interior very fresh, without foxing.

The book explores in detail the world of brothels, their sumptuous decor, their prestigious clientele and their practices, through rich iconography (photographs, drawings, archival documents).

Romi tackles various aspects: history, the arts, song, the postcard, literature, humor, documents, advertising, cinema, and, of course, the gradual closure of these establishments. The author notably mentions emblematic places such as the Chabanais, the One-Two-Two, or the Sphinx, frequented by figures such as Colette, Gabin, Piaf, Marlène Dietrich or Humphrey Bogart.

Limited edition of 3,000 numbered copies.
