Description from the seller
Seneca – Works, volumes II–III, parchment, ca. 1695.
Pair of ancient volumes in Latin, containing part of the complete works of Lucius Annaeus Seneca the philosopher and of Marcus Annaeus Seneca the rhetorician. The second volume (Tomus secundus) includes the Epistolae and the Quaestiones naturales; the third volume (Tomus tertius) collects the rhetorical works with the Suasoriae and the Controversiae of Seneca the Elder.
Seventeenth‑century edition, dated 1695 on the title page, in small format (in-12 / in-16), entirely in Latin, with elegant typographic ornaments and a woodcut publisher’s mark. Contemporary binding in stiff parchment, with handwritten titles “Senecae Opera T. II – T. III” on the spines.
Conservation conditions: complete and solid volumes, with normal signs of aging; browning and sparse foxing, some stains, creases and small tears along the margins of the early leaves; an internal hinge partially loosened but stable. No significant loss of text. Ideal for collectors of ancient Latin books, for scholars of Stoic philosophy and classical rhetoric.
