Carbide miner's lamp dating from 1850–1900, made of metal with patinated bronze, of German origin, 16 cm high, 9 cm wide, 8 cm deep, weighing about 1 kg, not in working order and preserving its original patina.
Description from the seller
Miners' carbide lamp – late 19th century
An authentic witness to industrial archaeology
A fascinating object rich in history: an antique carbide lamp (acetylene) used in the early decades of the twentieth century in mining and industrial settings. Gifted by an old miner to my great-grandfather when he was a child (in 1915).
This lamp is not merely an antique tool, but a true fragment of lived life: imagined among underground tunnels, workshops, and construction sites, it illuminated daily work with its vivid flame fueled by acetylene.
Made of brass/bronze with a double-stacked tank structure:
• lower tank for calcium carbide
• upper water reservoir with a threaded cap
• front-facing nozzle for the gas outlet
• arc-shaped forged metal handle for transport
Estimated to date from roughly 1900 to 1930.
The surface preserves a beautiful, original patina that is rich and tactile, with signs of age that attest to its authenticity. It has not been polished or altered, keeping its industrial character intact.
There is an engraved marking '1K' on the body.
The front reflector is not present.
Ideal for:
collectors of lamps and mining instruments
• enthusiasts of industrial archaeology
• vintage/industrial furnishings with a strong visual impact
An authentic piece, with over a century of history, capable of adding character and a sense of history to any environment.
Conditions consistent with age, with normal signs of wear.
