Description from the seller
Void 004. Forged by Time is a powerful continuation of the Art with Void series by Tijs Dragtsma.
In this work, the image does not emerge through addition, but through removal. No paint. No print. No ink. The form is carved out of absence itself. What remains is shaped by precision, restraint and controlled subtraction.
The figure portrayed is that of an aging warrior. Strength is not expressed through motion, but through presence. Muscles are defined not by mass, but by light. Time has not diminished him. It has formed him.
As illumination shifts, the contours intensify. Depth deepens. The body appears to solidify and dissolve simultaneously. From a distance, the image stands firm and monumental. Up close, it reveals a subtle field of tension between surface, void and reflection.
The surface becomes active. Absence becomes structure. Light completes what material no longer carries.
Forged by Time reflects endurance. It speaks of discipline, resilience and the quiet authority of experience. The strength shown is not youthful force, but power refined by years.
About Art with Void
Art with Void is a self-developed artistic medium in which imagery emerges through the deliberate removal of material. Rather than constructing an image, Dragtsma creates space. The remaining structure interacts with light and reflection to generate the final visual experience.
The works are defined by restraint, precision and sculptural depth. Light is not an external factor, but an integral component of the artwork itself. It strengthens form without overwhelming it.
Each piece is unique and unrepeatable, shaped by process, material behaviour and the unpredictable dialogue between surface and illumination.
About the Artist – Tijs Dragtsma
Tijs Dragtsma is a Dutch contemporary artist and founder of TD Fine Art Studio. His practice operates at the intersection of material, absence and light, with a strong focus on developing new artistic languages rather than following established conventions.
He is widely recognized for his Art with Nails series, where hundreds to thousands of steel or brass nails form sculptural portraits that shift with light and perspective. With Art with Void, Dragtsma advances this exploration further, reducing imagery to its most essential state.
Since beginning his artistic practice in 2024, his works have entered private collections across Europe, Asia and the United States, and have been presented internationally. His work is driven by experimentation, precision and a long-term vision centered on material integrity and physical presence.
All works are conceived and produced in his studio in Enkhuizen, The Netherlands.
