【Product details】
This is a Japanese branding iron, known as Yaki-in, featuring a traditional cast iron seal head on a long, hand-forged handle. Branding irons like this were historically used in Japan to mark wooden boxes, lacquerware, or even traditional sweets (wagashi) to signify a craftsman's mark or a family crest.
The seal motif appears to be a stylized Yin-Yang symbol, both of which are significant in Japanese heraldry and spirituality, representing protection, balance, and the cycle of life. The long handle ends in a decorative loop, allowing it to be hung when not in use.
There is significant rust across the entire surface of the iron. Please refer to the photos for details.
Dimensions: approx. H 42.5 cm W 3 cm D 4.5 cm
