Marcus Tullius Cicero’s Opera Omnia, Latin, in a single leather-bound volume published by Apud Guillelmum Læmarium, with four parts in one volume and about 958 pages, illustrated with wood-engraved initials and vignettes and bearing armorials of the Dukes of Württemberg and the Princes of Montbéliard.
Description from the seller
Rare Petit in-folio. 4 parts in one volume. 958 col., (3) pp. 635 col., (2) pp. 714 col. (80) pp. With a wood-engraved border, figurative and many initials and wood-engraved vignettes, richly blind-stamped with four different rolls and the arms of the Dukes of Württemberg, the princes of Montbéliard, and the monogram "AOB." A rare work from the Laemarius press. The place of publication is not specified, but it is often said to be Lyon, though Laymarie never worked there (cf. Baudrier I, 240), under the reign of Frederick I of Württemberg (1593-1608). The armorial seal used on the cover agrees with that described by Haebler (II, 93, 1), which is found on the bindings of the duke of Württemberg’s private library. However, “the arms of Württemberg seem to have been used much more widely by local binders to decorate their bindings” (cf. Haebler II, 90). - Missing ties; the stamped covers are damaged and missing. Interior somewhat browned or stained, but overall a very attractive copy. - Graesse II, 157. Schweiger I, 106. Moss I, 294. BM-STC Français 109. Not in Adams
