Description from the seller
Important nineteenth-century edition of one of the foundational texts of modern venereology. The original treatise by John Hunter (1728-1793), a Scottish surgeon and anatomist, is here presented again in the translation by G. Richelot, enriched with the essential notes and additions by Philippe Ricord (1800-1889).
This edition is historically significant because Ricord, nicknamed the 'Newton of syphilis', uses Hunter's text to refute some of its theories (such as the identity between gonorrhea and syphilis), steering the discipline toward the modern scientific method.
