Pair of antique carved and gilded wooden frames in a Louis XV/Napoleon III style, in period condition with natural patina and age-related wear, external 52 × 40 cm and internal 48.5 × 36 cm, dating to 1850–1900.
Description from the seller
Pair of antique gilded frames carved with floral scrolls – Louis XV / Napoleon III style – Late 19th century – Period condition with patina and craquelure – 52 × 40 cm
For sale: a pair of matching antique wooden frames, molded, finely carved and gilded with gold leaf (old-period gilding, with a beautiful warm and authentic patina developed over time).
Refined decor: a dense frieze of interlaced floral scrolls, stylized leaves, and light Rocaille motifs, in a Neo-Louis XV style typical of the Napoleon III era (circa 1870–1900). The motif is airy and elegant, without being overloaded.
Precise dimensions
External (overall): 52 × 40 cm each
Internes (visible / rabbet) : 48.5 × 36 cm each
→ They are perfect for a small painting, engraving, pastel, old photograph, or a discreet wall-mounted mirror.
Condition (see close-up photos):
Original condition and authentic use for pieces approximately 120–150 years old. The gilding shows a very attractive natural patina, but also many flakes and small losses (flaking/chips) typical of the passage of time, oxidation, and old handling—especially on the reliefs and the edges. Wear, marks, light scratches, and visible signs of use. No major structural damage, no large carved gaps nor visible repairs, but the gilding is not intact (which is normal for this type of unrestored object).
Sold without glass, back, or artwork (bare frames). Ideal for use as-is (patinated vintage look), partial restoration (re-gild locally if desired), or as a base for a shabby-chic / brocante chic decor project.
Perfect for enthusiasts of authentic antiques, framers, decorators, or collectors who appreciate the charm of objects with a history and the marks of time.
A rare pair in a compact, harmonious format – a great opportunity for a period-style project or period decor!
