William Shakespeare (1564-1616) was an English playwright, poet and actor. He is regarded as one of the greatest poets and dramatists of the English language. His work, translated into many languages, comprises 39 plays, 154 sonnets and a few additional poems, some of which are not attributed to him with certainty.
Shakespeare wrote most of his plays between 1589 and 1613. The early ones are mainly comedies and histories, then he devotes himself more to tragedies such as Hamlet, Othello, King Lear and Macbeth. At the end of his life, he writes tragicomedies and collaborates with other playwrights.
Berthold Mahn (1881-1975) was a French painter, draftsman, lithographer and illustrator.
