Description from the seller
Page 54 from the first album of the Katanga trilogy by Sylvain Vallée (art) and Fabien Nury (script).
Quid pro quo. Your brother for diamonds...
This line, addressed to Alicia and spoken by Armand Orsini in the final panel of the page, is, in a sense, the through-line of the three Katanga albums.
In June 1960, after 80 years under Belgian colonial rule, the Congo proclaims its independence. Less than two weeks later, the wealthy mining province of Katanga secedes. The Congo of Patrice Lumumba and Katanga of Moïse Tshombé immediately go to war. At the heart of the conflict: control of mining territories (copper, diamonds, ...). Many massacres and exoduses of civilians follow. The UN then imposes its mediation and sends Blue Helmets to the region... At the same time, a horde of despicable mercenaries (the Foul Ones) is recruited by Armand Orsini, a special adviser to the French interior ministry, to go liberate the occupied mining operations and ensure the continuity of production... It is at this moment that a Black servant, Charlie, lays hands on an invaluable treasure: 30 million dollars in diamonds... making him the Black man most sought after in Katanga. And Charlie has a sister, Alicia, a courtesan close to the entourage of Katanga ministers, to Armand Orsini, to a manager of UMHK, etc... Alicia is the apple of his eye. And vice versa...
This three-volume series, a genuine African political thriller, is a killer in every sense of the word.
