Chwichiya 002 meteorite slice, a carbonaceous chondrite (C3.00-ung), from Western Sahara, origin 10 June 2018.
Description from the seller
Chwichiya 002 is a rare and unique carbonaceous chondrite meteorite, classified as a C3.00-ungrouped chondrite, originating from a carbon-rich asteroid. It was first discovered near Houza village on June 10, 2018, by Elho Sbiti, and later purchased from collectors Mohamed Elguirah, Habib-Naji Naji, Nourddine Azelmat, and Youssef Ait El Caid.
Chwichiya 002 stands out from other carbonaceous chondrites like CM2 chondrites because it has larger chondrules and shows only the initial stages of aqueous alteration. Its classification as a type 3.00 meteorite is based on the absence of phyllosilicates (as confirmed by XRD analysis) and higher-than-usual microprobe totals for the matrix, distinguishing it from type 2 chondrites. Although it is not included in the official mass, this particular piece was bought by me directly in the source, from Habib-Naji Naji (one of the classifiers) in a trip to Morocco in 2022.
Estimated to be about 4.5 billion years old, Chwichiya 002 is a piece of early solar system history, containing material that formed in the protoplanetary disk around the young Sun. By studying such meteorites, scientists gain insights into the building blocks of planets, the conditions of the early solar nebula, and the processes that shaped the distribution of elements and minerals in the asteroid belt.
- Weight: 0.36 grams.
Packages are usually sent the morning after the auction. Shipping is combined in all my listings - if you win multiple items, only one shipping cost is paid.
