Description from the seller

Clot-Bey (A.-B.).
Concerning the plague observed in Egypt;
research and considerations about this disease.
Paris, Fortin, Masson et Cie, 1840. Octavo, red half-leather binding, smooth spine ornamented with fillets and gold tooling, black title-piece, marbled boards.

Original edition of this important medical treatise on the plague in Egypt by Antoine-Barthélemy Clot, also known as Clot-Bey (1793-1868), chief physician to Mehemet-Ali and a major figure in the introduction of modern medicine in Egypt.
A study informed by direct observations during epidemics in the Levant, addressing etiology, contagion, prophylaxis, and the sanitary organization of lazarets.

Illustrated with two color plates (out of the text) depicting, in particular, the historical costumes of plague doctors and quarantine personnel.

A sound copy, with scattered foxing, the 19th-century binding is solid despite wear from use.
