Ruhla..ELKA - Chess set - Garde ELKA - Wood

Beautiful unique Garde chess clock
In good condition...works well and all the keys are original
Winding mechanism is fine.
Made in DDR around 1960 at the Ruhla factory in Thuringia
Unique specimen due to the ELKA brand mark printed on the bottom.

The clock also features an extra inlaid rim of lighter beech wood around the edge.

The name ELKA comes from Lazarus Kiek who had two shops in Amsterdam, including the world-famous Kalverstraat.
When selling his inventory, there were 700 clocks in his shop of the Garde brand with an ELKA tag.
The maker in the early days of Garde was UMF...later Ruhla.

Unique piece indeed... certainly for collectors
