Beech wood Garde chess clock from Germany, dating to 1960–1970, designed by Ruhla DDR, in almost mint condition, 13 cm high by 23 cm wide, with a working wind-up mechanism.

The tradition of Ruhla clockmaking goes back to 1890, the year in which the first timepieces were built by Gebroeders Thiele - Uhren und Maschienfabrik - Ruhla

The Gardé chess clocks were first shown at the Chess Olympiad in Leipzig in 1960 and since then also the official competition clock at the world championships, among others Karpov – Kasparov until the PCA match between Kasparov and Short in 1993 in London - After this the digital clock made its entry onto the World Championship podium.
