Extremely rare seventeenth-century edition of this volume, enriched by a superb contemporary parchment binding with handwritten titles on the spine and on the edges.
Three parts in one volume, each part with its own title page and a text framed by a richly illustrated border. Headings engraved and very beautiful small historiated initials. Pages with foxing and various halos, very beautiful contemporary parchment binding with handwritten title on the spine and also on the edges by an antique hand. It should be noted that the last 15 leaves are affected by ancient dampness and are slightly thinned, back board with a small loss due to dampness.
Very good book and well preserved, as seen in the accompanying photos which are an integral part of the description.
Petrus de Andlo (or Peter von Andlau, c. 1420–1480) was an Alsatian jurist, scholar and canonist, best known for his work "De imperio Romano" considered the first systematic treatise on public law of the Holy Roman Empire.
The work systematically addresses the legal bases of the Holy Roman Empire, succession, imperial powers and rituals, offering a structured view of imperial law; it is regarded as one of the first modern treaties on imperial public law, composed in a transitional period, and was subsequently published based on manuscripts from the Palatine Library.
The main themes include:
The creation of the sovereign: Procedures for electing the King of the Romans and the subsequent elevation to Emperor (Regis et Augusti creatione).
Inauguration and powers: Details on the coronation rites, imperial administration and sovereign rights.
The Great Electors: Status, office and power of the prince-electors within the imperial structure.
The work also supports the divine origin of imperial authority, while recognizing the federal structure and privileges of the various member states.
Dimensions: (210 x 160 millimeters).
Pages: 181 / (120 (first vol.) + 61 (second vol.))
