Description from the seller
Mahogany Triple Dial Weather Station, Germany, 1970s
German-made mahogany weather station integrating thermometer, barometer and hygrometer in a vertically structured sculptural frame. The composition combines three spherical instrument housings in polished mahogany with brass bezels and brushed metal dials, mounted on an angled solid mahogany support.
Manufacturer and origin: Germany
Year: circa 1970s
Style and use: Mid-century modern scientific instrument; designed for interior climate monitoring and decorative display
Dimensions: H 32 cm × W 8 cm × D 9.5 cm
Condition:
Overall well preserved. The mahogany surfaces show light surface wear and minor scratches consistent with age. Brass bezels display natural patina. Glass covers for thermometer and barometer are intact; the hygrometer glass cover is missing. Dials remain clean and legible. No structural damage observed.
Value justification:
This piece reflects the strong German tradition of precision meteorological instruments in the mid-20th century, combined with restrained modernist cabinetmaking. The spherical casings and architectural vertical frame create a balanced geometric composition suitable for desk, shelf or office display. The integration of three measuring functions in a compact sculptural form increases usability and collectability.
Context:
Representative of 1970s German interior accessories where functional instrumentation was integrated into refined wooden housings. The use of solid mahogany and brass details aligns with period modernist decorative objects produced for domestic and executive interiors.
