Description from the seller
MiLo – “Protoform”
A work by Amsterdam-based artist MiLo (1976).
Protoform captures a moment of formation before structure settles. Black paint moves freely across the raw, unprimed canvas, forming an entangled network of lines and nodes that suggests an organic system coming into being.
What begins as open movement gradually connects outward, extending toward the edges of the surface. The form no longer floats in isolation but presses against its boundaries, held together by tension rather than symmetry.
Executed directly on the rough side of the canvas, the absorbent surface remains visible beneath the paint, emphasizing process and materiality. The painting can be hung in any orientation, allowing the perception of balance and force to shift with its presentation.
In some images, a visible front signature appears for illustrative purposes only. The work is signed on the reverse; if the buyer prefers a front signature or a specific placement, this can be arranged upon request prior to shipping.
The painting will be rolled up and shipped in a sturdy tube or box, without frame, and includes a signed certificate of authenticity.

About the artist
MiLo (1976) is an Amsterdam-based artist with a background in photography and art studies. Over the years he has sold more than 800 original works, now residing in private collections, hotels, restaurants, and offices across Europe, the United States, Hong Kong, and Taiwan.
His practice spans from early Pollock-inspired action paintings to precise geometric compositions, and to the layered, scratched surfaces he often explores today.
In his current work, MiLo investigates the tension between construction and erosion, layering and scraping the painted surface until traces emerge. These may recall urban structures, geological strata, or remnants of thought — yet the imagery is never fixed. Each canvas evolves through process and chance, allowing multiple interpretations to surface beyond any single theme.
Each work forms part of an ongoing exploration of abstraction, memory, and transformation, making MiLo one of the most prolific and recognizable contemporary artists on Catawiki.
