Original 1994 acrylic mixed-media abstract expressionist work by German artist Wolfgang Wieland (XX), titled Im Zentrum diffus, 86 × 68 cm, on canvas, framed, signed on the front with Wieland 94 and back inscriptions, in good condition and weighing about 2.8 kg.
Description from the seller
The present artwork stems from the German artist Wolfgang Wieland, who was active in Freising. The work bears the title handwritten by the artist on the back, “Im Zentrum des Aktes,” and was created in 1994. It is a unique piece in mixed-media technique, executed with acrylic paints and additional materials on canvas. The canvas is stretched on a wooden frame (stretcher) and additionally set into a simple wooden frame.
The painting on the front lower right is signed by hand with “Wiel. 94” and dated. On the back there is another handwritten inscription by the artist with the title “Im Zentrum d. Aktes,” which further confirms the authenticity and clear attribution of the work. The execution, the expressive brushwork, and the gestural-abstract pictorial language are typical of the artist’s work in the 1990s.
The provenance is known without gaps: The work was acquired in 1995 as part of a consignment of several works by Wolfgang Wieland. The price for this painting alone was 2,600 DM. Since the acquisition, the painting has been in private ownership. Separate authenticity certificates or expert opinions are not available, which is common for the direct purchase of contemporary artists of this generation; the combination of signature, dating, and back-of-frame titling is considered sufficient proof of authenticity.
The condition of preservation of the work is overall good. The image surface shows no detectable damage, cracks, or restorations. Only minor, age- and storage-related signs of use are present, particularly on the back and the frame, which do not affect the overall impression.
The artwork will be shipped framed and stretched on canvas. Due to the solid frame, shockproof packaging is recommended. Dimensions of the artwork, the canvas, and the frame have not yet been documented and should be added to complete the cataloging.
Wieland was locally active in Freising, with references to exhibitions such as at the Museion (“Realm of the Muses”). Abstract-expressionist style with gestural painting.
