Description from the seller
Up for auction: a genuine museum piece of high-fidelity analog—the Ortofon T-2000 step-up transformer.
Designed and built in Denmark in 1982, this device is not a mere accessory, but a legendary component created with a single purpose: to make the mythical Ortofon MC 2000 cartridge sing.
Since the MC 2000 had an incredibly low output (0.05 mV), Ortofon had to create a transformer with no compromises, massive and technically extreme. The result is the T-2000, a "brick" weighing almost 3.5 kg despite its compact size, still regarded today as one of the best SUTs ever made.
1. Silver windings: Unlike standard copper models, the T-2000 uses pure silver conductors for both the windings and the internal wiring. This ensures an unparalleled level of detail and an 'air' in the highs.
2. Extreme Gain (35dB): With a transformer ratio of about 1:55, it is the only true solution for very low-output MC cartridges (Low Output) such as Ortofon MC2000, Audio Note Io, or Kondo.
3. Toroidal Shielding Construction: Inside there is no air, but a very heavy shielding made of permalloy and soft iron that eliminates any hum and interference, bringing the signal-to-noise ratio to excellent levels.
• Techniques: Tested and functioning perfectly on both channels. No hiss or unusual hum.
• Aesthetics: Overall good condition for its age. The black cabinet is solid. The rear RCA connectors (gold-plated) are clean and free of oxidation.
