Platter - Mahogany - sea table "butler"

Rare coffee table top for a marine setting, “buttler,” made of solid mahogany. It is a round top with slightly rounded edges, folding on built-in brass hinges. Also called “the captain’s table.”
This table is sold without its feet.
It was designed at the end of the 19th century, a period marked by colonial expansion and the development of mercantile marine. Marine furniture was then highly prized, notably for its sturdiness and elegance.
The top hinges are brass. Gleaming mahogany in very good condition. Some minimal signs of use related to age. (see photos)
The rims are carved with hand grips.
An exceptional piece.
