About the Artist: Milton Bhattacharya

Milton Bhattacharyya is an Indian contemporary artist from Howrah, West Bengal, who received his formal training at Kala Bhavana, Santiniketan, completing his Master’s degree in Fine Arts.

Working primarily in the medium of painting, his practice is grounded in sustained research and close observation of socio-cultural environments. His work explores themes of myth, time, memory, and everyday cultural rituals, often drawing from regional histories and literary references.

Alongside his independent practice, Bhattacharyya works as a school teacher in Deoghar, a role that places him in direct and continuous dialogue with the local community. Over the past years, this engagement has shaped his artistic language, encouraging a reflective approach that connects historical narratives with present-day social realities through carefully developed visual and conceptual framework.

Bhattacharyya has participated in a number of national and international exhibitions and workshops, contributing to a growing visibility within the contemporary Indian art landscape. His exhibition practice is closely tied to context and space, frequently extending beyond conventional white-cube settings to engage with culturally significant or community-oriented venues. Through these presentations, his works aim to activate dialogue between past and present, literature and lived experience, positioning his practice at the intersection of research, place, and contemporary artistic inquiry.
