Volume 1 only, 1834, 1st edition by Whitaker and Treacher, English, disbound, 190 pages, 217 × 130 mm, containing 79 hand-coloured plates with plate 51 and its text page missing, with the original half calf covers detached and most of the spine lacking, contents split and one plate/text detached, otherwise plates and pages are tight.

With 79 hand-coloured plates, lacking plate 51 and its text page.
The original half calf covers are detached, and most of the spine is lacking. The contents are split in two, and one plate and text is detached; otherwise the pages and plates are firm and tight.
Of the 79 plates, two are lightly creased in the margin, three are slightly marked, two are lightly foxed, one is badly foxed, and three are browned. The others are all in good condition.
[William Baxter, 1787 – 1871, was a British botanist appointed curator of the Oxford Botanic Garden in 1813. British Phaenogamous Botany was published in 6 volumes between 1834 and 1843, with copper-plate engravings by Isaac Russell (an Oxford glass painter) and C. Matthews. These men were not trained botanical artists, but gradually acquired a good working knowledge of the subject. The engravings were later hand-coloured by Baxter's daughters and daughter-in-law.]
