About the artist:
Freddish Papritz, professionally known as Freddish, is a French visual artist born in 1971 in Paris.
Self-taught artist, he emerged from the early Parisian urban culture and became, from the late 1980s, one of the formative figures of French street art. Active within the first circles of graffiti in the 1980s and 1990s, notably as a member of the IZB crew, Freddish contributed to laying the foundations of the street art movement in France.
Alongside his urban practice, he works as an assistant to prominent contemporary artists such as Niki de Saint Phalle and Jean Tinguely, experiences that have deeply influenced his artistic vision and embedded his work in the legacy of the Nouveau Realists.
From these influences, Freddish develops a singular multidisciplinary artistic language blending painting, sculpture, assemblage, and urban techniques. He becomes especially known for his sculptural interventions and metal assemblages, often conceived for public spaces. Alongside other artists, he co-founds La Galerie de la Rue, a collective platform dedicated to exhibiting urban art in institutional and non-institutional contexts, in France and internationally, notably through projects in West Africa.
Freddish also collaborates closely with the hip-hop and contemporary dance scenes, creating sets, installations, and visual environments for performances staged in major Paris venues such as L’Olympia, La Cigale, and the Grande Halle de la Villette.
An important milestone in his career occurs in 2006, when he participates in the Salon d’Automne in Paris, marking one of the earliest institutional recognitions of street art in France.
Their work explores urban, social, and fantastical themes, mixing acrylic painting, collage, and metal sculpture. Anchored in popular culture and hip-hop aesthetics, their practice has gradually evolved toward more narrative and personal compositions, while maintaining a strong link with the city and its symbols.
Freddish's works are regularly presented on the contemporary art market, with pieces appearing in public sales since the 2010s, including notable works offered for sale in 2025. Their creations are today in private collections in France and abroad.
Between 2020 and 2026, Freddish continues developing on-site projects, immersive installations, and murals, notably in architectural and hotel spaces such as the Ki Space Hotel & Spa, where their paintings and sculptures interact directly with their surroundings.
Considered a historic figure in French street art alongside artists such as Speedy Graphito, Miss.Tic, Jef Aérosol and Blek le Rat, Freddish remains an active and influential artist, bridging the origins of urban art with contemporary practices.
