Obermetall Carbid lamp, manufactured circa 1920, located in the Netherlands, in original condition with an integrated water reservoir and carbide gas system, red side facet glass, and the original locking mechanisms, hinged front and burner holder.
Description from the seller
Very fine and original antique carbide bicycle lamp from the brand OBERMETALL, dating from the early 20th century, roughly 1910–1925. This type of lamp was used on bicycles and motorised bicycles before the breakthrough of electric lighting.
The lamp is made of brass and has a beautiful, warm patina that is fully consistent with its age. At the front there is the characteristic oval brand plate with the name OBERMETAL. The lamp features an integrated water reservoir and gas development system for carbide (calcium carbide), which generated acetylene gas for a powerful beam of light.
A distinctive detail is the red faceted glass on the side, as well as the original locking mechanisms and adjustment knobs. The hinged front and the burner holder are present. The lamp is in its original, unrestored condition.
Condition:
Good antique condition with normal signs of use, wear and patina appropriate to the age. Not tested for operation. See photos for an accurate impression.
