Description from the seller
Heavy Cranberry Crystal Freeform Bowl – Mid-20th Century – 1.18 kg
A striking and elegant freeform bowl crafted in richly coloured cranberry crystal, characterised by its organic, sculptural shape and exceptional clarity. The glass displays a beautiful gradient from deep cranberry red to lighter pink tones, with thick, flowing walls and a polished base that enhances the brilliance and depth of the material.
This type of bowl was hand-formed using traditional hot-glass techniques, where the molten crystal was shaped and folded to create a dynamic, floral or petal-like form. The substantial weight of over 1.18 kg confirms the high quality and dense crystal composition.
Cranberry crystal has been prized since the 19th century for its luxurious colour, achieved by adding gold compounds during production. Pieces like this became particularly popular during the mid-20th century, especially in renowned European glassmaking regions such as Bohemia, Murano, and Scandinavian workshops.
Ideal as a decorative centrepiece, ashtray or display object. Its sculptural presence makes it equally suitable for modern and classic interiors.
Very good vintage condition. There is a minimal small chip on the underside of the base, not visible during normal display and mentioned for accuracy. Otherwise, the crystal remains bright, clean, and free from cracks.
Dimensions approx.
Height: 9 cm
Length: 20 cm
Width: 18 cm
Weight: approx. 1,182 kg
Period: Mid-20th century (circa 1950–1970)
