Giacomo Grosso, trained under the maestro Andrea Gastaldi at the Albertina Academy in Turin thanks to a municipal scholarship, consolidated his national prestige in 1884 with a work inspired by Giovanni Verga’s verismo, thus beginning a career that would elevate him as one of the most prolific and sought-after portraitists on the international scene. His constant presence at prestigious exhibitions such as the Venice Biennale and the Paris, Munich, or San Francisco Salons was complemented by his reach in Argentina, where his brush captured the historical epic of Buenos Aires’ centennial. Beyond his technical virtuosity, Grosso exerted a fundamental pedagogical influence from his chair at the Albertina starting in 1906, a legacy that, together with his appointment as a senator of the Kingdom in 1929, culminated in a brilliant career that positions him as an institutional and artistic figure essential in the transition from nineteenth-century naturalism to the modernity of the twentieth century.
- Image dimensions without frame: 37 x 49 cm / 63 x 75 cm with exclusive custom frame.
