Gérard Pairé born in Nantes, France in 1950,
Like some painters of my generation (Bernard Frize, François Rouan, Bernard Piffaretti etc) I partially freed the pictorial gesture from a certain psychologism. I searched for limits by inventing a strategy (that of not over-working to let the painting itself have free rein); in the vein also of artists of the previous generation (Hantaï, Helen Frankenthaler, Morris Louis etc).
