______________________________________
This work is part of a plastic/visual research carried out by the artist around the question of religion and its symbolic survivance in contemporary thought, notably in dialogue with Friedrich Nietzsche and his famous dictum of the 'death of God'.
Religare — a Latin term meaning 'to connect' — questions the tension between the disappearance of the sacred and the persistence of religious forms in the collective imagination.
On an initially white background, left suspended by the artist, a red figure resembling Christ gradually emerged. This unpremeditated emergence sits within a study of pareidolia: the haphazard search for figures in matter, where perception sometimes precedes intention.
The figure, at once spectral and vibrant, seems to rise from the canvas as a mnemonic trace or symbolic reminiscence. The intense red contrasts with the emptiness of the background, suggesting both passion, violence, sacrifice and iconic survival.
This work belongs to a series devoted to the 'haphazard search for the figure,' where Algo explores perceptual mechanisms, cultural memory and the power of archetypes.
The artist develops contemporary expressive painting, positioned at the boundary between abstraction and figuration, questioning collective psychology, philosophy and the aesthetics of appearance.
