Description from the seller
Historical wall mirror with carved and gilded frame – neobaroque tradition, late 19th century / ca. 1900
Historical wall mirror, dating from late 19th century to the early years of the 20th century, belonging to the eclectic decorative tradition with clear neobaroque influence. The frame is made of carved and stuccoed wood, with applied gilding and black areas, a technique common in European decorative production of the period.
The ornamentation features stylized vegetal motifs and relief scrolls, arranged symmetrically in the corners and sides, following classical canons reinterpreted according to the historicist taste of the era. The contrast between the gilding and the dark background enhances the depth of the carving and provides a rich and balanced visual reading.
It preserves its antique glass, which shows slight marks, small imperfections and patina compatible with its age, elements usual and valued in original pieces from this period. The frame shows natural wear, minor losses and aging of the finish, coherent with more than a century of existence and that reinforce its authenticity.
