Description from the seller
Steinberg - The New Yorker 1976
Original poster, first edition poster, the first printing of a large print (100x70 cm). Printed on paper. At the top appears the masthead of the famous magazine, at the bottom the signature of the illustrator. Saul Steinberg was among the greatest illustrators of the twentieth century, a world-renowned artist and illustrator who throughout his career collaborated with the leading American magazines, including “Life,” “Time,” “Harper's Bazaar,” but best known for his collaboration between the Forties and Eighties with The New Yorker, the magazine for which he created illustrated features, drawn reports, and dozens of covers. With his essential, sharp line and his metaphysical imagery influenced by Dadaism and Art Deco, Steinberg represented on the magazine’s covers views of New York and visionary, surreal compositions. Steinberg suggested replacing the word “autobiography” with “autogeography,” as if life were essentially a matter of places, of locations and perspectives, as in this famous New Yorker cover from March 29, 1976, entitled “View of the World from 9th Avenue,” which shows the world seen from an unspecified point on the famous street. The poster is presented in a frame. Product condition:
Product in good condition, with minor signs of wear. We aim to present the actual state as accurately as possible with photos. If some details are not clear from the photos, the description takes precedence.
