Two volumes in-8 (210x135 mm), full speckled calf, gilt border framing the covers, smooth spine richly adorned, red morocco title and volume labels, marbled edges (bindings of the period). Light wear on the boards and spine, rubbed headcaps, small loss at the head of the spine of volume II, some corners bumped. Occasional foxing.

Original edition forming volumes XV and XVI of the complete works of George Sand

It was during a trip to Italy between 1834 and 1836 that George Sand composed these twelve letters. The first three are addressed to Musset shortly after their quarrel which led him to leave Venice. Franz Liszt, Éverard, Nisard, Rollinat are notably among the other recipients of these letters.
