Alfred de Musset. Gamiani or Two Nights of Excess. Clandestine edition published around 1940 (unspecified date) by Henri Pasquinelli. Very loose compositions by Berthommé Saint André of which 20 color lithographs hors texte and a suite in black.
Edition limited to 697 copies. This one no. 498, one of 445 on rag paper from Rives, marked 228 to 672, with all the suites on the same paper.
Edition produced by the care and for the exclusive benefit of the "true romantic amateurs" (a group of bibliophiles) – 101 pages.
Soft cover with a gray crimped cover. Tears and a stain on the cover but the interior relatively clean. No foxing. Good condition. Format quarto (25×20 cm).
Gamiani or Two Nights of Excess is a novel by Alfred de Musset first published in 1833. This novel is the most licentious and most reprinted work of the entire 19th century with more than 40 editions. The attribution of the novel to Alfred de Musset has long been disputed.
The novel tells of two nights in the life of Countess Gamiani, marked by her escapades with Fanny and Alcide. During these two nights, the three characters repeatedly recount their sexual initiation as well as their greatest exploits in this domain.
