Description from the seller
This work belongs to a very limited edition of ten lithographs made on recovered poster fragments, each support displaying its own material characteristics. The use of these poster fragments confers on each copy an intrinsic variation linked to the history and texture of the support, while preserving the coherence of the print run.
The print was made on the classic Marioni presses of the Idem workshop in Paris, a reference point in the history of modern and contemporary lithography. Direct heir of the Mourlot workshop, founded in the 19th century and renowned for collaborating with many major artists of the 20th century, Idem perpetuates a rare know-how based on the transmission of traditional printing techniques.
The Marioni presses, brought into service in the 19th century and still in operation, offer a very precise pressure system that enables fine control of inking and faithful reproduction of textures and nuances. Their use is part of a technical and historical continuity that links this edition to the major lithographic productions carried out in Paris for more than a century.
Beyond their technical dimension, the Idem workshop today stands as a production environment renowned for the rigor of its prints and the quality of its artistic guidance. The creation of this lithograph in this context attests to a demanding editorial process and a clear alignment with the tradition of the great studio prints.
The print was produced as part of a production carried out in collaboration with Danysz Gallery. Each copy is signed and dated by the artist on the back. Monotype /10 versions
