Umberto Verdirosi (Trino Vercellese, 1935) is an Italian painter, poet and actor.
Born in Piedmont, the son of actors, with a Sicilian father and a Venetian mother.
Classical training. In his youth, he was part of several theatre companies.
He will replace Gian Maria Volontè in Cavaliere Mario Ruta's company, portraying Aligi in La figlia di Jorio by Gabriele D’Annunzio, Romeo in Shakespeare, Paolo in Francesca da Rimini by Nino Berrini, and Cecco Angiolieri in Beffardo, also by Nino Berrini.
At twenty, he forms his own tent theatre company, which he will lead until 1968, after which he will devote himself no longer to theatre, but only to painting, sculpture, and poetry.[2]
Illustrates Shakespeare's sonnets (Marelli translation) with a preface by Diego Fabbri.
His works are found throughout Europe and America, from Canada to Florida, from New Zealand to Australia. He has exhibited at Export Art in New York, in Miami and in Sarasota (Florida) and in almost all Italian cities. He has had galleries in Fiuggi, Chianciano, Spoleto and Assisi, and currently in Orvieto. He has his own permanent studio-museum in Rome.[3][4]
He is the author of 9 books, 7 of which are published in bilingual editions.
