David Roberts (1796-1864) - Sketches in Egypt and Nubia with historical descriptions by William Brockedon, Lithographed by Louis Haghe - 40 x 30 cm. - half leather-bound on linen boards with decorative band on the front board.
Originally published between 1846 and 1849 by Master lithographer Louis Haghe, together with William Day in England.
The 85 plates (84 + title plate) are breathtakingly beautiful and all faithfully reproduced from the original color lithographs.
Also historically, this book is a milestone: the monuments are depicted as found and painted on site; long before the great tourist flows began in the late 19th/early 20th century.
