Maurice Lemaître (1929‑2018)
A discreet but prolific French painter, Maurice Lemaître established himself with a body of work deeply tied to rural landscapes and provincial atmospheres. Born in 1929, he developed early a sensitive eye for the light of the French countryside, which he translates into warm figurative painting, attentive to the seasons, to villages and quiet horizons.
His work, widely represented in public sales, testifies to a great stylistic constancy: balanced compositions, soft colors, serene scenes where one finds orchards, ponds, tree-lined paths or views of villages in Île-de-France, Brittany or Pas-de-Calais. Lemaître paints with sincerity without affectation, privileging simple emotion and the everyday beauty of places.
Died in 2018, he leaves behind a prolific oeuvre, sought after for its timeless charm and its ability to capture the soul of the French landscapes. His paintings, often small or medium format, continue to circulate actively on the market, bearing witness to the lasting attachment of collectors to this authentic and luminous painting.
