Biography of Filippo Palizzi
Filippo Palizzi (Vasto, 1818–Naples, 1899).

Initially he engages in sculpting statuettes for nativity scenes, then, from 1937, he moves to Naples where at first he is a pupil of Camillo Guerra and Costanzo Angelini, then of Giuseppe Bonolis. His work is mainly based on the observation of reality; furthermore he is one of the first to engage in photography. Another theme dear to the artist is that of animals. With his works he carries out the first attempt at a verist direction in 19th-century Italian painting.
