Description from the seller
Fine British Masonic Gold Signet Ring with Onyx, Birmingham 1976
An exceptional British Masonic signet ring crafted in 9ct gold and set with a natural black onyx panel, finely inlaid with a gold square and compass symbol featuring the letter “G”. The design follows the traditional English signet form, with a strong, well-balanced head and smooth, polished shoulders tapering into a comfortable shank.
The deep black onyx provides a striking contrast to the warm tone of the gold, while the precisely executed gold inlay demonstrates a high level of technical skill. The geometry of the Masonic emblem is crisp and well proportioned, with clean lines and accurate alignment. The overall finish reflects careful workmanship rather than commercial mass production.
The letter “G” at the centre traditionally represents both “God” and “Geometry”, symbolising the spiritual and philosophical foundations of Freemasonry. The restrained yet confident design makes the ring suitable for both men and women, with a refined and timeless presence.
The ring bears full British hallmarks from the Birmingham Assay Office, dated 1976. The sponsor’s mark “C.G” corresponds to Charles Green & Son Ltd. The piece was manufactured by The Albion Chain Co (Frank & Walter Hayes Rabone), a Birmingham firm established in 1910 and known for quality jewellery production, including private commissions.
